Workshop Descriptions: Workshops meet 10-6 on Saturday and 10-5 on Sunday, unless otherwise noted. Workshops meet in various historic buildings on the Spruce Forest Campus. Students may bring lunch or purchase lunch at Penn Alps Restaurant across the street. There are many motels and bed and breakfasts in the area, some in walking distance. Please check the Spruce Forest website for links to lodging options.

PMC (precious metal clay)and basic silver techniques with Douglas Salmon
July 11, 12

Fee: $150 + $?? material fee

Students will make two rings, one with bezel set stone and one necklace. PMC techniques, basic silver soldering and stone setting will be covered.




Beginning Jewelry with Douglas Salmon
July 18-19 or Sept 12-13

Fee: $150 + $50 material fee

Play with fire in this exciting weekend course as you learn elementary techniques for creating three-dimensional jewelry designs. Master metalsmith Douglas Salmon will be your guide through the creative process of cutting, forming and soldering with brass, copper and silver in this relaxed rural environment. Learn to utilize basic elements of design and the simple and ancient methods of cutting and hand shaping, as well as modern techniques utilizing oxy-acetylene torches. You will walk away with a number of one-of-a-kind creations and an insight into the true art of jewelry-making.







Basic Drawing with Lenore Lancaster

Basic drawing instruction for ages 12 and up. Limit 8 students.


Colored Pencil Drawing with Lenore Lancaster

Colored pencil workshop for students ages 16 and up. Limit 8-10 students.


Feather Carving with Gary Yoder
August 29-30 or Sept 26-27

Fee: $200 materials included

Using traditional carving tools, a wood burner, and acrylic washes and iridescent paints students will create a delicate basswood or tupelo feather. Experience the attentiveness to detail and come to appreciate the smallest aspects of nature in this two-day workshop. Limit 6 students.


Copper Vessel Forming with Mike Edelman and Doug Salmon

Using traditional and contemporary techniques students will learn how to manipulate copper into interesting vessel forms . Limit 5 students.
